Guide What is the best resolution for a metrics dashboard? 4k or 1080p?
For a wall-mounted dashboard TV, you have two basic choices, 4k and 1080p.
The majority of commercial TVs will have the following resolutions:
- 4k: 3840 × 2160 pixel resolution
- 1080p: 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution
Typically 1080p is sufficient. If your TV is mounted on a wall in a large room and most people are viewing it from across the room or casually glancing at it. you won't notice the extra resolution.
If your metrics dashboard is in a hallway, small lobby or a small room, a 4k display may make more sense. Another area where 4k makes sense is when you have a large array of displays or displays close to working areas, such as a control center or NOC (Network Operations Center).
Before your spend extra on the extra resolution however, make sure the content you want to display supports 4k resolution. It's unfortunately common for some web content to look fine on a 1080p display, but not scale and instead take up a fraction of the available screen real-estate of a 4k display.
DashboardTV features zoom scaling, available on all plans. This allows you to modify the zoom factor of web content. This allows you to fill up more of the display with content and less whitespace.
